The Final Countdown

With only hours to go, The New England 1:1 team is in full stride making the final preparations for the Summit on March 10, 2012. We have a few updates to share for all who are attending tomorrow.

1. Parking and Registration
Parking will be available in our student parking lot. We will have a traffic cop and students directing traffic in the morning. We encourage you to car pool if possible. Once you are parked, follow the signs or student help crew to the front of the school.

We will start checking in attendees, vendors, and presenters at 7:00 am in the main lobby. Bring your ticket if possible for check-in. We will have separate check-ins for attendees, presenters, and vendors. All attendees will receive a gift bag and a t-shirt. Sizes and numbers are limited, so there is a chance that all attendees may not receive these items.

We will also be providing a digital and paper version of our schedule and session descriptions. If you want to access the ePub version of our literature, you can click here using your iPad, Android, iPhone. We will also have students to help setup the literature on your device when you register.

2. Once you are registered
We will be providing coffee in the morning and light snacks courtesy of our school store. Note that we are not providing a full breakfast, and we encourage attendees to grab nourishment before they arrive. There is a Dunkin Dounuts and a Starbucks located near the school. Locations are embedded in the links.

Once you are registered you can move towards the auditorium for the opening keynote.

3. Device setup and Help Desk
Once you enter the building you can access our Wi-Fi by selecting “Summit” from the list of available networks. There is no sign in required for access. If you need help with setting up your device, our student help desk will be available during registration and throughout the day.

Each room will have power strips for charging and we will offer charging stations in our blogger cafe in the center of the library. Our student help desk will be on hand all day to offer tech support. If you have a problem at any time during the summit, you can visit the student help desk in the main lobby or use the hashtag #bhshelpdesk to submit a problem.

The New England 1:1 Summit will also have a concierge on hand all day for all of your needs and requests. The Summit Concierge is Sid Chhayani and you can follow him on twitter @NE121concierge

4. Share your experience
If you use Twitter throughout the day, please share your tweets using the #ne121 hashtag. Also, we have set up a Posterous site so that we can all share photos, slide decks, presentation notes and reflections. Posterous is a microblogging site that presents us with an easy way to share information and media. To view the posterous site simply point your browser to…

5. Closing events
At the end of the day we will reconvene in the auditorium for some quick trivia and give away some great items donated by our Vendors and Sponsors.

After the event, all are invited to the Emerald Rose in Billerica, MA. We encourage all in attendance to join us for the post event networking social hour.

Summit Updates

With about two weeks to go until the 1:1 Summit, we wanted to provide some pertinent information for the day of the event.

The doors will open at 7:00 am for registration and networking. We will be registering attendees from 7:00 – 8:30. At 8:30 we will commence in the auditorium for the opening remarks from the Burlington Public Schools Educational Technology Team. Registration will be open up until the start of the event. If you did not register on-line, you can still attend. Simply check in at the registration table when you arrive.

Parking will be available at the school. We will have several students outside parking attendees when they arrive.

When you check in you will receive a gift bag compliments of Edutopia, a t-shirt, lanyard with name tag, and wi-fi information. We will not be providing breakfast, so come to the summit nourished.

We will have tech support on hand throughout the day and charging stations available throughout the school for all your recharging needs. Our tech support will be roaming throughout the day and we will also have a stationary tech support table. The location of this will be provided when you register in the morning. There will also be a Twitter hashtag for tech support as well. The hashtag is #bhshelpdesk

Since there are a variety of sessions available throughout the day, we encourage you to feel comfortable getting up from one session to attend another. We will be trying to video archive each session throughout the day so attendees and virtual attendees can watch later. Also, throughout the day please share your experiences, photos, and any presenter materials through our posterous site. Simply send any information to this address ne121summit@posterous.com and you can view what others shared by visiting ne121summit.posterous.com

Also, we will have a place setup at the school for those who want to take a session time slot off and possibly network, blog, or visit with vendors. This area will be detailed when you register.

Lunch will be provided for all in attendance, but attendees are welcome to leave the school and visit some of the local restaurants for a bite to eat. There will be a concierge on hand if you decided to venture out into Burlington for lunch. We have also allotted two hours for lunch, networking, vendor visits, and digestion.

After the fourth session commences, we will reconvene back in the auditorium for giveways. Our generous vendors have donated some great items to give away at the end of the day. Also, all attendees are invited to a networking social after the event.

If you have any questions beyond what I’ve mentioned above, don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of the organziers

Have you ever wondered what it really means to transform your district, school, or classroom to a 1:1 environment? It is a term we hear a lot, but not all can see it or experience it. With the takeoff of the iPad and its successor, the iPad 2, the education world is abuzz with the idea of moving towards a 1:1 environment. But is it practical? For some, it is a dream, a wish; for others, it is slowly becoming a reality. So what does a 1:1 environment look like? How will the students and teachers react? Is it the right direction to go?

On March 10, 2012 Burlington Public Schools will host The New England One to One Summit. This event is open to administrators, educators, and IT administration who are interested in learning more, and engaging with one to one and personalized learning initiatives. There will be featured speakers specifically for administrators, educators and IT administration. Session models will offer a variety of formats: workshops, presentations, and how to sessions.

Presenters will be notified by January 16th if their presentation has been accepted. If you are accepted, you will have until February 1 to cancel. Those not accepted will be placed on a wait list.
